Unseasonably warm weather has forced the closure of the Kinsmen Outdoor Rink, elks/Kinsmen Park Pond and other natural skating areas in the Town of Vegreville.
Community Services Director Phil Rowe said they are currently closed due to insufficient ice thickness which poses a safety risk to its users.
As posted on the Town of Vegreville’s website on Dec. 3, “As per Alberta Health Services restrictions posted on November 24th, 2020, outdoor gatherings are restricted to 10 or less people. This includes outdoor skating surfaces.
Shinny hockey is not permitted as physical distancing cannot be maintained; however, skating is permitted once the rinks are opened. Masks are not required in outdoor spaces when physical distancing measures can be met.”
