Town of Vegreville Mayor Tim MacPhee was happy to report during the July 22 council meeting that he met with Alberta Agriculture Minister Devin Dreeshen on July 3.
“I had quite a few phone calls related to an industry and some possible investors who want to come to town. So on July 3, we brought a bunch of them together to see if there were any synergies within their companies that they could work together on. The Ag. Minister, our MLA, industry leaders, and well-represented government officials, and I feel we made quite a bit of progress. Good things will come from this last meeting and I feel that having access to the chief of staff, and them understanding what the challenges will be in the hemp industry moving forward is going to be very positive for us all.”
Coun. Taneen Rudyk, who was also in attendance at the meeting, said “It was great to have the minister here in the community talking about our agricultural strengths, our cooperation with InnoTech and some of the things the Town of Vegreville has been doing very deliberately to insert ourselves as a hemp centre of excellence. So we look forward to welcoming back the ag. minister, and being able to do some concrete movement going forward. It makes a lot of us excited about what could happen here.”
