The Vegreville Rangers Hockey Club has officially announced that it will be taking a one year leave of absence from the North East Jr. B. Hockey League for the 2020-’21 season.
The decision to take a one year hiatus was a difficult one, said Laine Stefan, Vice-President of the Vegreville Jr. B Rangers Hockey Club.
In a letter dated Oct. 5, 2020, which was addressed to council, fans, and community at large; Stefan stated, “This was a very difficult decision, but due to Covid-19 pandemic and all the restrictions that come with this pandemic it is not financially or operationally viable for us to operate this season. We hope to see you all next year. Stay safe, stay healthy!!”
The letter is included in the Oct. 14 town council agenda package. The Vegreville News Advertiser has reached out to Club President Joe Budinski for comment, and is currently awaiting his response.
