Trees by the Shore Celebrates Planting in Genesee

GENESEE, ALBERTA–(Marketwire – May 26, 2010) – Trees by the Shore, an innovative national program that aims to create urban forests throughout our country, is celebrating its anniversary by once again planting trees in 25 Canadian communities including Genesee, Alta.

The program will bring school children, Girl Guides, Scouts and local conservation groups together to plant over 37,000 native trees along waterways in 25 Canadian communities. Included in the program will be lesson plans whereby students will learn about the benefits of trees including; maintaining water quality, minimizing soil erosion and providing habitat for wildlife.

In Genesee approximately 1,500 trees will be planted along the Saskatchewan River by students and staff from Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School on May 26.

“The most exciting part of the Trees by the Shore program this year is that communities across Canada submitted applications to host a tree planting in 2010 and that initiative has created 25 partnerships between Tree Canada and communities across this country,” according to Michael Rosen.

The program is funded by Tree Canada in conjunction with their corporate partner Irving Tissue and their Majesta brand of tissue products.
